The Taj....Mahal in Agra

yesterday early, early we left for Agra ...
4 hours later we entered the Taj...Mahal

as always lots of people but more because of Diwali holidays....

the magical entrance....you kind of see the Taj.....

voila'....there it is....
to bad we didn't get really blue sky....

so nice to have visitors...daughter with husband....

on the way up to the mausoleum...looking back at the entrance...the park is gorgeous.......

the impressive entrance into the mausoleum...
well, everything is impressive....
it's so grand

it's stunning to see all the decor:
calligraphic panels...the size of the Koranic verses increases
as the arch gets higher, creating the subtle optical illusion of a uniformly flowing script
Pietra duras; inspired by the paradise garden carved floral designs inlaid with precious stones
Carved relief work and jaali patterns....
the decor is stunning ......

just amazing....remember that all this was done between 1631-1653
around 20.000 workers laboured to get this sublime garden-tomb done

inside the mausoleum in front one of the wonderful carved windows..

when walking outside again you get blinded by all the white marbel
it's so white....and then the sun on top of that...

the Taj has four minarets and they are all built with a gradient of 11 degrees....outwards...
so if they would fall they will fall away from the mausoleum...

so foggy... Yamuna river...not a lot of water....

in front of the mosque....
that looks exactly like the guesthouse on the east side....

view from a relaxing bench

what many forget is that the Taj is a muslim worship place....
always closed on fridays....

still exotic to see and hear them...

people from all religions and all corners of the world comes to look at the Taj

he was so cute...couldn't help myself...

colourful as always..

what I don't like about Taj Mahal are all the so called guides who harass you
outside and inside....
takes away some of the beauty of the place actually
it's still a "must to do" if in this area though !!
