Hill top Fort of Nahargarh, " Tiger Fort "

driving back from Amber we decided to go to the hill top fort of Nahargarh which means "abode of the tiger".....it was up up up on a winding narrow road...talk about adventure....I think our driver Pawan really enjoyed himself...or he was scared to life...it was an adventure to get up there and we discussed how high up it is...a couple of hundred meters, maybe 400 meters above sea level...

this is the fort down from Jaipur on a rainy day...and I'm a couple of kilometers away from the fort...just wanted to show how impressive it is overlooking the city...it stands on the edge of Aravalli Hills....

it was built mainly in 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh the second, the founder of Jaipur and it was constructed as a place of retreat on the summit of the ridge above the city..

below the main entrance there was a water reservoir ....the water was so low and as you can see....VERY green...

the decor is just beautiful ...they really knew what they where doing back then...and  money was no problem if being a Maharaja....

hand painted decor all over and stunningly done...

this is the "big" courtyard you enter after the main gate...

he built rooms for all his wives....and the princesses....

I can only say that the light inside these rooms where kind of difficult...it was really dark inside most of them....I really need to learn more about how to use my camera in these situations...

walked up this narrow staircase up onto the roof....

looked down and saw all these monkeys on the floor below..this one was apparently helping out with the cleaning..haha..

I think they got scared when I started taking pictures so off they went....

sliding down the cable !...so funny to see...

the view from up the roof was breath taking..

we walked along the wall and took in the view from different spots....so did our driver Pawan..it's him in the corner....

this is what we saw....wow..the city of Jaipur from above....

a little closer....

the wall and the huge Amphi theatre...

the wall along the Aravalli Hills ridge..

we where so glad that we went up here...just because of the views....
that's it for today dear readers....but I'll be back tomorrow with more sights from Jaipur
have a great saturday
